The name Maris Sol (Coastal Sun) comes from the views that influence our wines - an outlook that stretches across the vineyard and over the coast. Our grapes spend their days drenched in sun, followed by cool crisp nights, the optimum environment for them to thrive.

Commissioned artist Sara Winfield grew up on a farm in the bush, with a brush, a big imagination and a deep love for our Australian outback.
Winemakers are always fidgeting around in the cellar with small and often quite unique batches of wines, mostly as trials to see what is possible in our portfolio wines.
Commonly, the winemaker will tuck them into the back of the winery with no one awares! The Maris Sol label is a format in which we can bottle very small parcels that have to fit the criteria of being both unique and interesting. The more obscure….the better!
Flint, citrus trees in flower, biscuit dough, gently toasted pine nuts, crushed sea shell.... a complex tapestry of aromatics.
Sweeping the palate with concentration, texture and a feeling of completeness. Mouthwatering and pure.
The Maris Sol chardonnay is sourced from two blocks on the estate, from two sepa-rate clones. 60% Clone 76, originating from Saône-et-Loire, prized for floral charac-ter, finesse, tightness and great longevity.
The balance is Gin Gin clone, know for its low yielding behaviour, hen and chicken berries, great depth and concentration of flavour.
100% barrel ferment in new and one year old french barriques. Temperature in oak is allowed to peak at 22 degrees celsius, and malo-lactic fermentation was discouraged.
The 2016 vintage begun with a hot Spring, likely due to a strong El Niño influence, with October, November and December considerably warmer than the previous season. The repercussions were good with a nice even flowering, providing consistency of fruit through the blocks. Rolling on to January, the Geographe region received 74mm over four days of rain on January 18, proving a test for most Vineyards, however the fruit remained pristine and fresh.
