A blend made famous in the Rhône Valley of France, Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro are blended to make a juicy, vibrant and fresh wine blend of medium body and clean tannin.

Whilst we have had Shiraz planted at Willow Bridge since 1997, Grenache and Mataro have been recent and exciting additions grafted in 2015. For the two cultivars, we chose sites on the vineyard which maximise heat exposure, giving the best opportunity to ripen and express full array of flavours.

Mataro is a late ripening variety, so the extended period on the vine is essential. Grenache is a prolific yielding variety requiring fruit thinning to achieve best balance of quality and tannin.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Plenty of redcurrant, musk and pepper, entwined with aromas of forest berries. A medium bodied palate of freshly crushed black plum and vanilla spice. Textured and a long finish.
Vineyard Notes
Estate grown from the spectacular hillside vineyard in the Ferguson Valley of the Geographe wine region, fruit is sourced from 1998 plantings of Shiraz and more recent plantings of Grenache and Mataro. Soil is typically a deep layer of ironstone gravelly loam over red and yellow friable clay with slight westerly aspects at elevations of 220 to 250m above sea level.
Production Notes
Crushed cool to fermenters to static fermenters for eight days, peak temperature 28 degrees Celsius. 100% barrel matured in new and older French hogsheads.
Winemaker Notes
A season in which we have had our hottest December days ever, our warmest nights since 2012 and our driest December since 2008. However despite these conditions being thought of as less than ideal, we could not be happier with the overall quality of the wines from the vintage. All this occurred in tandem with the absence of our two nemeses, bushfires and birds! We did though experience a low yielding crop.
