Black Lab Selection
1 bottle 2011 Black Dog Shiraz
96 POINTS JAMES HALLIDAY
Deep dark wine, seven years old, but you wouldn’t guess it. Still has freshness of dark plums and blackberry in support of characters that develop with age, dark chocolate, roasted root vegetables and loads of peppery spice. The palate still has lustre showcasing density and weight, with a long satisfying texture keeping the tannins in balance. Will still benefit from ageing, but drinking superbly now.
2 bottles 2013 Coat of Arms Cabernet Merlot
94 POINTS JAMES HALLIDAYMedium to full bodied, with a sweet juicy and expansive front palate. Serious, ripe and nutty structural tannins fill out the middle and a hints of black coffee, then a twist of blood-orange acidity give a fresh, yet savoury finish. Should happily reward cellaring to 2020, perhaps beyond.
1 bottle 2015 Gravel Pit Shiraz
96 POINTS JAMES HALLIDAYA seamless profile of rich dark plums, mixed berry fruits, licorice and toasty oak. The texture is slippery and dense, perfectly matched by fine tannins. Further development will occur in the cellar for up to 10 years.
2 bottles 2016 Solana Tempranillo
Sweet juicy fruits over a savoury and rustic core. Flavours of dark satsuma plum, blueberry and dried salty herbs meandering to a chalky mineral finish. Cellar up to 20 years.
