Bull Dog Selection
1 bottle 2010 Black Dog Shiraz
Medium weight, but those rich, dark fruit and chocolate characters from the nose come through with plenty of power. Ample, but very fine grained, almost graphite-like tannins weave through the fruit to give the palate plenty of structure to hang onto for years to come. Halliday says to 2030, Mattinson to 2025+, so sometime around then sounds good to us.
1 bottle 2008 Black Dog Shiraz
BAM! The dark red colour hinted at a wine still remarkably youthful and powerful. Aromatic qualities of vanilla and blueberry, spicy oak and satsuma plums are abound on the nose, and this leads to a textural palate with earthy beetroot and darker berry fruits. The tannin structure is long and plentiful and carries the wine beautifully. A wine that could easily take further cellaring.
2 bottles 2011 Solana Tempranillo
A colour of dark mellow red with brick hues, the bouquet appears rustic and savoury, edgy and fulfilling. Lots of dark cherry and chocolate is apparent on the palate with savoury notes and a lingering fine tannin backbone. A food wine with long flowing structural tannins perfectly suited to game or slow cooked stew.
2 bottles 2012 Coat of Arms Cabernet Merlot
Medium to full bodied, with a sweet juicy and expansive front palate. Serious, ripe and nutty structural tannins fill out the middle and a hints of black coffee, then a twist of blood-orange acidity give a fresh, yet savoury finish. Will happily reward further cellaring to 2020, perhaps beyond.
